2022 is Half Over…

… Are you halfway toward achieving your goals?

It’s hard to believe that this year is already half over… it has absolutely flown by! And I hope it’s been a good year, so far, for you and your firm. This midpoint in the year gives you an opportunity for a little reflection. To see if you’re on pace to achieve this year what you wanted to achieve.

For example, are you halfway toward achieving your total revenue goal for the year? And even if your goal was front-end or back-end loaded, are you where you thought you’d be at the end of June? Besides total revenue, what about the more specific goals? For example:

  • Did you set revenue goals for sales by service line? If so, are you 50% of the way there for each of those services?
  • Or by industry served?
  • Or by key account?
  • Or by new business/existing business?
  • Or by individual sales rep?

In addition to revenue goals, there are also profitability goals, goals for client acquisition and retention, proposal win/loss goals and a hundred different marketing activity goals… not to mention all of the other company goals – in HR, operations, accounting, etc.

However, not all goals are numbers and easy to track. Even so, now is also the time to assess where you are with those bigger, perhaps more strategic goals. For example:

  • Did you commit to launching a new product or service this year (even if the launch was planned for Q3 or Q4)? Where are you in its development? Are you still on track to hit the launch date?
  • Or what if your plan was to create the position of Sales Manager for your firm and hire to fill that role?
  • Or break into a new industry vertical?
  • Or host your first webinar?

Often, in the course of leading or managing a company, we get wrapped up in the details. In fact, we get so busy working in the business that we forget to work on the business. So, consider this article your reminder… to assess where you are so far this year compared to where you wanted to be.

And if you are where you wanted to be… congratulate yourself! But if you’re coming up a little short in hitting your goals or you’re a little behind on your timelines, now is the time to take a step back and consider tweaking what you’re doing or how you’re doing it and make the appropriate adjustments moving forward.

Remember, “If you keep doin’ what you’re doin’, you’ll keep gettin’ what you’re gettin’.”
